Rocco Guerra, a 16-year-old from Puglia nicknamed ‘rock on fire’ on Virtual Regatta, beat a strong fleet to win the 2020 Italian eSailing National Championship.
Following the qualification process, 160 eSailors were reduced to 16 finalists, with the top 10 progressing to the Medal Race. Amongst these were last year’s eSailing World Champion Filippo Lanfranchi and 2019 third place finisher Luca Coslovich, as well as well-known sailors like Paolo Scutellaro, Paolo Parente and Danilo Suppa.
And newly-crowned Italian champion Guerra, who has also sailed real-life in the Optimist, 420 and ILC 40 classes, admitted he has only very recently started playing Virtual Regatta: “I started eSailing during the lockdown and I immediately got hooked, the results arrived and in the end, here I am!”
Lanfranchi finished second, with Tommaso Tamblè, aka ‘tommytamble,’ third.
