Switzerland launch 2020 eSailing National Championship

Switzerland are the latest nation to launch an eSailing National Championship this year, in partnership with World Sailing and Virtual Regatta.

As with numerous countries worldwide, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has brought sailing in Switzerland to a standstill, with regattas postponed or cancelled, and various port facilities and sailing clubs closed.

However, Swiss Sailing have made it possible for their landlocked sailors to continue virtually, with their eSailing National Championship, sponsored by Allianz Suisse, starting on 4 April 2020,

Switzerland launched an eSailing National Championship for the first time in 2019, with great success – over 400 participants registered, including numerous top sailors.

Arnaud Simonet, aka “Stripes,” from Münchenstein became the inaugural Swiss eSailing champion in a thrilling live finale held at the Windweek Brunnen.

“We are very pleased that, thanks to the support of Allianz Suisse, it will be possible to sail virtually from April,” said Martin Vogler, President of Swiss Sailing.

“It is currently the only way for many sailors to keep in touch with the sport of sailing. With the Swiss eSailing National Championship, we are responding to this development.

“Thanks to eSailing, we can also bring sailing closer to non-sailors.”

For Allianz Suisse, sponsoring this year’s eSailing National Championship is a matter close to the heart: Swiss Sailing and Allianz Suisse have enjoyed a long and successful collaboration.

“We share the same fascination for sailing and have been working closely together for 15 years now – we are, to a certain extent, in the same boat, ”says Martin Gonzenbach, Key Account Manager at Allianz Suisse.

“With our commitment to the Swiss eSailing National Championship, we underline that we are there for our partners even in turbulent times and that they can count on us.”

eSailors who have already taken part in the eSailing World Championship and entered “SUI” as their nationality will automatically be included in the Swiss ranking from April 4th.

The Swiss champion in eSailing is expected to be selected for the top 10 as part of a live final in September 2020.

Existing eSailors and new players are invited to compete in the eSailing World Championship on DesktopiOSAndroid.
