Switzerland launch 2021 eSailing National Championship

Swiss Sailing launched their eSailing National Championship for 2021 on 1 March.

This is the third successive year that Switzerland have launched their own National Championship on Virtual Regatta Inshore, with eSailing steadily growing in popularity in the country.

Just over 400 eSailors took part in the inaugural Swiss eSailing National Championship in 2019, with that number growing to 1,100 in last year’s Championship.

Swiss citizens are now invited to participate in this year’s eSailing National Championship, and are automatically qualified if they enter “SUI” as their nationality when registering for the eSailing World Championship.

eSailors in the top 10 of the Swiss ranking on 31 August 2021 will automatically qualify for the Final.

“eSailing is attracting great interest not only worldwide, but also in Switzerland,” said Marc Oliver Knöpfel, President of Swiss Sailing.

“We are all the more pleased that Swiss Sailing will be able to host an eSailing National Championship for the third time in 2021.

“eSailing offers the opportunity to make sailing accessible to non-sailors without access to sailing equipment, thus generating young talent for real sailing.”

Arnaud Simonet, aka “Stripes,” from Münchenstein was the winner of the first Swiss eSailing National Championship in 2019, with Christian Ettel, aka “Quappi,” from Schwyz taking the title last year.
